Students and Teachers at Mott Hall have had the great opportunity to get to know about the teachers and students of Japan through our participation in activities sponsored by the Japanese Government's Fulbright Memorial Fund Teachers Program

Some of Our Activites

Mott Hall participates in the Fulbright Memorial Fund Master Teacher Program. The FMF MTP, pairs US and Japanese schools for a year of collaborative science activities. The Fulbright Memorial Fund is supported entirely by the government of Japan in appreciation of 50 years of the American Fulbright Program.

Gifu Teachers Visit Mott Hall. Mott Hall School was chosen to be one of only 21 American schools to participate in the 2001-2002 Master Teacher Program. Our partner school is the Gifu University Associated Junior High School in Gifu, Japan. In March, 2001, three faculty members from the Gifu school spent several days visiting New York and Mott Hall.

Mrs. Herzog Visits Gifu School. During the summer of 2001, Mrs. Herzog spent more than one month at our partner school in Gifu.

The "BUGS" Project. As part of the MTP "BUGS" Project, students in all the 42 American and Japanese schools went outside their schools to discover the many kinds of insects that could be found there.

Mott Hall- Gifu Fuozku Daily Communication. For several months, Mott Hall Students and Gifu students shared daily weather reports, messages, and student snapshots in our "Daily Communication"

A Gift of 5000 paper cranes. After the attack of September 11, the students and teachers of our partner school in Gifu expressed their sorrow and sympathy to us in many notes and emails. Then they folded 5000 paper cranes to send to us as a symbol of hope - hope for healing, hope for friendship, and hope for peace. On December 21, the Mott Hall 7th grade held a celebration, welcoming the 500 cranes to our school. Mr. Ken Kasahara, Consul of the Consulate General of Japan in New York, took part in our celebration.

International Video Lesson. We observed International Education Week by having a New York-Gifu Science VideoLesson through a video conference. Even though it was early in the morning for students in Gifu and evening in New York for Mott Hall students, it was almost like working together in the same classroom and was great fun for everyone.

Mrs. Herzog's Photo Album of her three week educational tour of Japan during the summer of 2000 as part of the Fulbright Memorial Fund Teacher Program. She joined 200 American teachers from every state in the US.
